ANJPR Intern Spotlight: Stephanie Brown

My experience with ANJPR has been amazing. I remember three years ago when I was chosen to be a part of Disney Dreamers Academy Class of 2018 in Orlando, Florida. Which is where I met Ashley Johnson. On the first day of the 4-day event Ashley walked out and introduced herself as an alum. She began to share a little about her previous time at DDA and what she had been up to since then. I was inspired by her story of becoming an entrepreneur and starting her own Public Relations business. I did not get to spend much time with her at DDA; however, I made sure to stay in touch with her and even found out we were from the same area.

After DDA, I was asked by Ashley to perform a song at one of her events. I was so grateful and honored that she even thought of me to be a part! From that day forward, I knew I wanted to one day intern for ANJPR. To my surprise, Ashley reached back out to me around August of 2020, and asked me if I was still interested in becoming an intern. This opportunity meant so much to me being that I am currently a Junior at the University of Lynchburg majoring in Communications emphasis Public Relations. Due to the pandemic, my internship was going to be virtual, but I was still excited to even have the chance to network and be connected to so much greatness!

My job as an intern included assisting Ashley during The Mentorship Circle. The Mentorship Circle was a virtual cohort consisting of 24 women to gain mentorship, learn more about business and professional development, self care tactics as a business owner and most importantly build relationships. We met via zoom once a month for about an hour and a half and gained so much knowledge from a variety of guest speakers. I contributed to making sure the guest speakers were taken care of for each session, creating social media graphics, creating a list of different media outlets for promotion purposes, creating a news release, and anything else that Ashley needed me to oversee. I enjoyed being able to attend the sessions and practice things for Ashley that I was learning in class at the time. She was very helpful in guiding me through the different assignments and teaching me many different things that I could use for my own business.

I have my own lash extensions business and still a full time student online. From this intern experience I have been able to develop new time management skills to stay on track. Each week I receive my assignments for the week and also meet weekly with Ashley to discuss deadlines and expectations. This has been really helpful because she not only builds me up as an intern, but makes sure I stay on top of my other priorities. Overall, I am so thankful to not only be an intern for TMC, but also to have my experience extended to the end of 2021! Never would I have thought that having a dream in 2018 at Disney World would bring me to where I am today. I will forever be grateful for this experience and will continue to implement all the key elements I have learned!
